Rhinoplasty New York City

Are you dissatisfied with the appearance of your nose? If you desire a new look, you may consider undergoing nose surgery, with plastic surgeon George Beraka, M.D.

This surgical procedure can alter the nose in several ways; this can be done by sculpting the bones or cartilage, refining the tip, shortening or rotating the nose, and/or enhancing the tip with sutures or cartilage grafts. During a consultation with our rhinoplasty surgeon, Dr. Beraka, the two of you will discuss your surgery in detail. If you suffer from a breathing problem due to a deviated septum, you have the chance to learn about the best way to correct this with nasal surgery.

Typically, a good candidate for rhinoplasty plastic surgery is someone who is:

  • Wishing to refine the appearance of his/her nose
  • Having difficulty breathing through his/her nose
  • In good physical health
  • Realistic in his/her expectations and goals
  • Wanting to improve the profile of his/her nose

Dr. Beraka will provide you with the important details associated with nose surgery. Depending on your goals and condition, Dr. Beraka may suggest additional procedures, such as facelift surgery or chin and jaw implant surgery for optimal facial enhancement results.

The Procedure

Because everyone's anatomy is different, each patient needs a slightly different operation. The bones and cartilages are sculpted. The tip is refined and support of the nasal tip may be enhanced with sutures or cartilage grafts. The nose may be slightly shortened or rotated.

The chin and jaw line are as important as the nose in creating an attractive profile. Therefore the most common operation that is performed together with a rhinoplasty is a mandibular implant to enhance a weak chin.

The aging nose, like so many other tissues, tends to sag with age and becomes longer and more prominent as we get older. In older patients, I often perform a tip rhinoplasty wherein the nose is shortened and rotated slightly and the tip is refined without other major change to the nose. This simple procedure can have a startling impact in freshening the face and making it look younger. A tip rhinoplasty is often performed simultaneously with a facelift.

Scars

Incisions are hidden inside the nostrils, there are no external, visible scars.

Insurance

Surgery to improve the shape of your nose is cosmetic surgery and is not covered by medical insurance. Any procedures performed during the rhinoplasty to improve your nasal breathing are covered by health insurance.

Recovery Time

With anti-bruising medication, swelling and bruising is typically gone in one week. At one month, you see the result but it may take several months for the final subtle changes to appear. Most patients return to work or school one week after surgery. Vigorous activity may be resumed three weeks after your rhinoplasty.
