Are you wearing the right size bra?

This is a very important question for us because we perform breast augmentation surgery, breast reduction, and correction of breast asymmetry in our plastic surgery practice in Manhattan.

International reports suggest that between 70-85% of women wear the wrong size bra. But we need to know what your correct bra size is now so we can determine what size implants to use in a breast augmentation if you want to go up, for example, two cup sizes. In a similar way, your correct bra size guides us in deciding how much breast tissue to remove in a breast reduction if you want to be one or two or three sizes smaller.

There is a very useful bra sizing system which we use to get our patients' correct bra size. It was developed by Dr. Edward Pechter of Valencia, California. You can find your correct bra size with a couple of simple measurements and a chart. We use this chart in our office. You can also get this chart from Dr. Pechter at his website www.getsizedup.com.
