Liposuction and Lipoplasty New York

Liposuction is particularly well-suited for women and men who are of relatively normal weight but have isolated pockets of fat that cause certain areas of their body to appear disproportionate. These localized fat deposits may sometimes be an inherited trait and typically do not respond to dieting or exercise. Liposuction is often the only way to eliminate them.

Some important points about liposuction:

  • Liposuction is one of the safest and most effective cosmetic surgery operations. The improvement in shape and size achieved with liposuction is permanent. Our bodies do not make new fat cells after adolescence. So the fat cells that are removed with liposuction do not come back. Liposuction reduces the size of a part of the body (the thighs, for example) and improves its shape. It is great for removing bulges and for correcting undesirable fat deposits.Thin people have liposuction to correct bulges and to remove localized fat deposits.Overweight people have liposuction to reduce the size of an area (the thighs or stomach, for instance). Liposuction is not a technique for overall weight loss.Liposuction can be done in almost every part of the body.Women typically have several areas treated at the same time (for example: arms, stomach, thighs, and knees). For men, the most common areas are the stomach, the love handles, and the neck. Also, liposuction is effective in correcting gynecomastia (breast enlargement in men). There is fascinating new research that shows that stem cells can be produced from fat obtained by liposuction. Stem cells are important in treating a number of diseases
  • Some people have the misconception that fat removed from one area of the body with liposuction will show up in another area. This is not true.

What's special about my approach:

  • Liposuction is very much like sculpture and it should not be rushed. I take as much time as necessary and I keep working until I am satisfied that you have the best possible result.
  • Together with liposuction, I perform a procedure called superficial microtunneling, which can tighten the skin.
  • In women with cellulite, I have found that liposuction together with superficial microtunneling and the dietary supplement Cellasene can improve skin texture.
  • In some women, I perform liposuction breast reduction, which avoids the scars of surgical breast reduction.
  • I do not perform high volume liposuction (in which large amounts of fat are removed at one time from overweight people) becasue I don't think it is as safe.
  • Surgery is performed in my ambulatory operating suite - which has the highest accreditation from the American Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities - or in the hospital as an out patient. Accreditation ensures the highest standards of safety
  • In many patients, I am able to avoid compression garments, which makes the recovery much more comfortable.
  • I perform very superficial liposuction which gives better contour and can tighten the skin.
  • I perform circumferential liposuction, going all the way around the thigh.
  • A few days after liposuction, you will start lymphatic drainage massage which speeds up healing and contributes to the best possible result.

The procedure:

I do tumescent liposuction in which fluid is injected into the tissues before the start of liposuction. This makes the procedure easier and minimizes blood loss. In some patients, ultrasound assisted liposuction (UAL) is useful. Also available are power-assisted liopsuction (PAL) and VASER-assisted liposuction (VAL). During liposuction, I constantly check the tissues for contour and symmetry. Fat is removed from both deep and superficial layers and I use very small cannulas to produce a smooth surface.

Liposuction is done on an out-patient basis under light anesthesia. It is done either in our fully accredited office surgical suite or in the hospital.

Scars:

  • Liposuction is as close to scarless surgery as you can get. In each area treated, there are one or two tiny (1/8 inch to 1/4 inch) scars which fade with time.

Recovery Time after liposuction:

  • You will have some swelling and bruising which can last for three weeks.
  • Most people take between three days and a week off from school or work. You can resume normal activities in one week.
  • Avoid vigorous athletic activity for three weeks after liposuction.
